mp3: Applescal – Spring and Life

Unless you wear a fedora and listen to The Lumineers all day, you’ve probably noticed that the popularity of house is on the rise following the bro-zation of trap.  Luckily there is no shortage of awesome electronic musicians these days and Dutch producer Appelscal (same dude behind Yoshiba 87) is prepping to release his anticipated Dreaming in Key in February.  ”Spring and Life” is the latest single to drop from that album and it finds 25 year old Pascal Terstappen working with a dark and murky club sound.  After building for over a minute, “Spring and Life” transforms into the poorly-lit warehouse rave soundtrack I was hoping for.  This past weekend I attended an EDM concert to see if their was any hope left for Baauer and while I came away incredibly disappointed (and with sore ears from all the airhorns), it’s great knowing hipsters will still find soundtracks to dance to in 2013.

Yoshiba 87- Beaming Flowers From India EP

Ever since I listened to Yoshiba 87′s track ‘You’re The Best Thing Ever’ I’ve been anticipating his full-length with some high hopes.  That album, Beaming Flowers From India, dropped today off Atomnation with some gorgeous gems that standout among the sea of experimental electronic musicians currently dominating the blogosphere.  From my first listen some of my favorites include ‘Aermback’ which is a mostly ambient track with a great Boards of Canada vibe and ‘Jakoetask’ which sounds like it could be the product of a BADBADNOTGOOD jam session.  Throughout the entire album, Yoshiba 87 works with a huge range of sounds that will leave anyone impressed.  Stream below and download here

mp3: Yoshiba 87- You’re the Best Thing Ever (ft. Pien Feith)

Experimental beat-makers aren’t exactly hard to find these days with soundcloud having emerged as a perfect platform for producers of all ages and styles, so it’s all the more special when I hear a beat that sounds like it’s coming out of nowhere.  Yoshiba 87, a project of  22-year old Pascal Terstappen, made one of those tracks with his latest leak ‘You’re the Best Thing Ever’.  On the track, Terstappen chops up vocals from Dutch singer Pien Feith and uses them to create an irresistibly dark and stuttering beat.  What makes the track so unique is how it never really settles into a conventional groove as Terstappen keeps everything chaotic and messy throughout.  ’You’re the Best Thing Ever’ is the first track to drop from his upcoming release Beaming Flowers From India… listen to more over at his soundcloud.
