EP: Slam Skillet – Ecotone

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard a new release from Slam Skillet but his new EP Ecotone gives us plenty for the wait.  For me, Slam Skillet has always been an expert at crafting amazing sounds and Ecotone is no exception.  Opener “Sable” may be one of the prettiest non-ambient pieces of electronic music you’ve ever heard.  Even when he moves into darker alleys on “Rusine”, his tracks never veer away from sounding clean and incredibly well constructed.  Although Slam Skillet keeps his tracks sounding mechanical instead of organic, that doesn’t mean he drains his productions of fun.  While not straightforwardly danceable, tracks like “Sambar” and “Auroch” demonstrate that he knows a lot more about how to make people grove than he may initially let on.  The later half of “Sambar” especially sounds like the soundtrack to some ultra hip rooftop party (which will probably be thrown by The Up-Turn) ten years from now.

mp3: Slam Skillet – Avena

In case you didn’t hear, we threw an awesome concert last night with a bunch of the homies.  Slam Skillet was there and played an awesome set of new material along with some of his tracks from his awesome Rachis EP.  One of the highlights of the set was this new jam “Avena”.  It was awesome on the rooftop with cool people and it’s awesome bumping it alone in my room.

EP: Slam Skillet – Rachis

Slam Skillet, who first caught our attention with his gorgeous and high-energy beatie “Gemsbok”, is doing some big things.  His sound has only matured and his newest EP, Rachis, scored a feature on Noisey.  Rachis is filled with bubbling, strobe-accented beats that twist and bend around boom-bap vibed drums.  Slam Skillet is definitely a master of sounds and capturing good feelings in small samples that is equal parts Daft Punk and DJ Koze.  Although we feel like nostalgic parents seeing Slam Skillet grow up and make a name for himself, we couldn’t be happier about how his beats are starting to catch on with more people.  Stream my favorite tracks below and the entire EP after the jump.

Eat Your Beaties: Vol. 14

I really, really, really, honestly don’t really care a lot about this round of beaties.  The only thing special about this round of beaties is that they are the last set that comes before my birthday and will kick off a whole new year of possibilities  for me (maybe I’ll finally lose my virginity or even get my first kiss [I'm really not that hard girls {just no ugly girls plz ((email me if interested))}]!!).  Start your February right with some Britney, bitch, feel good party music from beaties sensei Slam Skillet, astral meditations from Gamera, g funk experimentation from stillcold and a beat from lo-fi, cloud-rapper Khalil Nova.  After the jump, bitch.
