mp3: Toro y Moi – So Many Details

Whether or not you bought into the whole chill-wave craze of 2009, it’s hard for anyone to deny how producer Toro y Moi has been able to keep his sound growing and maturing past blog-fueled buzz terms.  Last year’s Underneath the Pine had Toro y Moi embracing a live instrumentation based disco vibe while his more recent Freaking Out EP found a happy medium between chill-wave and dance music.  His latest single, ‘So Many Details’, shows off that Toro y Moi has only continued to develop as a producer since his past releases continuing his Freaking Out synthesis of instrumentally rich, dance-pop.  Despite all the layers of instrumentation and details, ‘So Many Details’ never feels overwhelming and manages to feel clean and incredibly well produced.  Anything in Return drops January 22nd.

mp3: Anthony Ellect – While

Anthony Ellect started off his young producing career with some amazing tracks and a few months later he hasn’t stopped putting out quality material.  Along with artists like Charles Murdoch, Anthony Ellect is a new breed of producer who’s music is nearly impossible to classify. ‘While’ contains some obvious nods to chill-wave and bass music, however, Anthony Ellect doesn’t allow it to get pigeon holed into either of those genres.  As he bends and warps the track, Anthony Ellect manages to pack in hazy vibes, quality vocal snippets and some great woozy synths towards the end.  This is the kind of stuff blogs eat up these days and there is no reason we shouldn’t be when it’s this good.

mp3: Giraffage- Feels

Giraffage was one of the producers who got popular and swept up in the wave of chillwave during 2010 and has kept adapting his sound to remain fresh and grow.  ’Feels’ is his latest track and one that shows off some adaption of the future-trap wave that so many producers are working with these days.  It strips away all the tired and worn chill wave sounds that was present in his older material and replaces it with hi-hat flutters, chopped vocal collages and plenty of other great sounds thrown in the mix.  Giraffage doesn’t sound like he is forcing the new direction either as ‘Feels’ shows off that his music will keep adapting and improving.

Stream: bitterTV- loveritual EP

I’ve been following the work of Russian producer bitterTV for a while now so I was very excited to see that he has put together some of his tracks and released a new EP.  loveritual is a stunning EP with 4 tracks that take under 15 minutes to listen through.  On loveritual, bitterTV works with a sound much more ambitious, unique and impressive than what he showed off with his first, already pretty great New Season Screen EP. It is great seeing how much bitterTV has progressed as an artist since I first started listening to his music.  Stream below and download at his bandcamp
