Video: Caves- Eleven Twenty

While I would have been perfectly fine with a video thrown together with some grainy clips from old TV ads or a movie, the video for ‘Eleven Twenty’ instead features some dudes with pantyhose on their heads driving around a parking lot.  While I’m not exactly sure why they are wearing the pantyhose or doing donuts in the lot they are clearly having a lot of fun drinking bears and smoking ciggies.  Check out Caves’ fantastic EP here.

mp3: Caves- While You Were Partying, I Was Dying (EP)

The 21st has arrived and with it the new Caves EP, While You Were Partying, I Was Dying.  Having showcased incredible talent on the single ’1993′, Caves delivers with three more tracks just as catchy and memorable.  I’ve listened through the whole 12-minute EP countless times and it’s only grown on me since its first spin.  Each of the four tracks showcases a different reason why Caves is so good.  On standout ‘Eleven Twenty’, Caves’ vocals are backed by a robust and probably sampled horn section while on ’310′ Caves sings in a Washed Out-esque falsetto over a Washed Out-esque instrumental.  Stream and download the EP for free below or at Absent Fever’s bandcamp

The artist statement of this video is pretty bold as it declares to “integrate three artists visual and auditory perceptions of one song.” The video is centered on two collages composed by Jesse Treece which were themselves visual realizations of the track ’1993′.  I’ll stay away from interpreting the artwork, however, the track is still just as great as when I first heard it and everyone should be psyched to hear When You Were Partying, I Was Dying on the 21st.

I honestly try to read every email that comes our way, however, I’ve more recently let a lot slip through the cracks.  In my recent cleaning out my gmail mess I discovered Will C, heRobust and now Caves.  Caves is the project of Luka Cage who is releasing an EP on the 21st with Absent Fever.  I’ve been a fan of Absent Fever for a while so I was pretty embarrassed to see how I had ignored their email until now, my embarrassment only increased when I heard just how good the stuff they sent was.  Caves is not a reverb-heavy/bedroom artist that the name might suggest.  Instead, Caves produces tracks that have just as much rock as they do sample-based goodness.  The vocals definitely have the same sort of swagger as The Black Keys, I just happen to like Caves a 1000 times more. When You Were Partying, I Was Dying is filled with great tracks like ’1993′ so look out for it soon.  Download below [right click save-as via]
