Best Friends / Grazes – Split Tape

During the spring we were practically posting good UK lo-fi rock everyday so the summer in comparison has been disappointingly lacking in good fuzz.  Part of the spring surplus was thanks to the awesome Art is Hard Records who are putting out this Split Tape on the 13th.  The split has two songs from fuzz-rockers Best Friends and a surprisingly hardcore pair of tracks from noise-punkers Grazes.  As expected, the two tracks from Best Friends are some of the catchiest, fastest and most fun songs in the lo-fi rock scene and although it’s not the sound I always go for Grazes definitely come through with some adrenaline soaked tracks.  Grazes will easily appeal to fans of Trash Talk and I can’t imagine many people not digging Best Friends’ contribution of ‘Dude Love’ and ‘Mankind’, both are frenetic and instantly catchy pieces of rock.  Most record labels probably wouldn’t pair these two bands together, however, Art is Hard definitely struck gold with this match up.  It’s a nice does of sweet and sour.  Stream ‘Mankind’ and ‘Timeslips’ below and the rest of the EP over at the Art is Hard bandcamp.

mp3: Playlounge- Boner Hit (KEEL HER Cover)

The latest entry in the always strong Art is Hard Records’ “Biweekly Pizza Club” is this fuzzy jam from the noise pop duo Playlounge.  ’Boner Hit’ is a KEEL HER cover which is pretty interesting to hear considering that KEEL HER are a contemporary of bands like Playlounge.  While the original ‘Boner Hit’ was already lo-fi enough, Playlounge manage to slather another coat of the noise sounding much more like No Age than the girl-lead pop of KEEL HER.  More than anything, I’m really digging this track because it has introduced me to two equally awesome bands through their takes on the same song.
