For our first interview (of many to come) I talked to Philip Post, the brains behind dertbag.design. Phil is a 16 year old who is quickly making a name for himself through his brand. He has recently garnered the support of a bunch of members of Odd Future, youtube video skate filmer extraordinaire, TJ Gaskill, and rising online magazine The Madbury Club. He is about to do some big things, so we thought now would be a good time to catch up with him. Hit the jump for the full interview…
This is honestly one of the coolest things I have ever posted since we first started this site over a year ago. It is a skate video filmed by the legendarily awesome Atiba Jefferson and Ty Evans with original music by Panda Bear. The skating is amazing, the filming is amazing, the music is amazing, I don’t even know what to say. Appearances are made by the Froston, Joey Brezinksi, Corey Kennedy, Mike Mo, Paul Rodriguez, Andrew Reynolds, Sean Malto, Mikey Taylor, Shane O’Neill, and Tony Hawk (I tried to put as many names to faces as I could but I’m sure I’m missing a bunch so feel free to point them out to me if you know). It would have been enough to get that many amazing skaters together in front of the lenses of to of the greatest filmers of all time, but the fact that it has original music by Panda Bear makes it infinitely incredible. Panda Bear’s album Tomboy will supposedly be hitting shelves in April.
Every once in a while I’ve gotta throw something skateboard related up here. Antwuan, aside from being one of the most amazing skateboarders ever, is one of the most interesting people ever (if you want to learn about him I would highly suggest watching this, this, and this). I posted this just because I was blown away by Dixon’s video part, but I can also connect it to music. I believe the most exciting artists in the hip-hop genre, the Odd Future crew, especially their leader Tyler, The Creator, are influenced, more than any musical artist, by Antwuan Dixon and his brutally frank and honest attitude. I don’t care if you don’t know anything about skateboarding, it is hard not to appreciate something like this video part by Antwuan Dixon.
Besides making awesome videos on Youtube, Original Longboards are doing great things to promote the sport of longboarding. This Halloween Original is hosting a Longboarding Costume Contest, where they are asking riders from all over the country to post videos of them riding in ridiculous costumes. Winners receive great prizes so any longboarder should definitely check them out. The reason I like this contest so much is because Original does not care what company your board is from and this is not a contest to promote Original sales, but to promote the sport.
Pontus Alv is one of my favorite skaters, but you only find something new from him 4 or 5 times a year. Today I was going through a bunch of his videos and found this old gem where Pontus skates some of the spots he made himself in his home city of Malmö, Sweden. If you watch you will see why it is worth posting.
Here is an amazing video of longboarding in Thailand with a musical soundtrack of Vampire Weekend’s I Stand Corrected, and Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John. This kid is a junior rider named Colton Killoran and there are some awesome shots of tricks and moves in some beautiful Thailand.
