Sioux Falls first attracted our attention with their Big Krackel EP, a release as loud, 90s indebted and basement rocking as it sounds (if you don’t think Big Krackel sounds like any of those things, whatever get off my back bro). “All Fury and Light/It’s so Dark it’s so Bright” finds the group stripping down to an acoustic intimacy with not much more than voices, guitars and a lot to share. With the general high-brow culture surrounding indie music it’s been refreshing hearing so many bands stay simple, honest and emotive. Sioux Falls doesn’t seem concerned about sounding new, exciting or fresh as much as they care about telling their stories and writing their songs. From some singers a line like “and the milky way sighed alone, light years from life, it’s so dark it’s so bright” may come across as needlessly poetic, however, from Sioux Falls it sounds like a dude trying his best to describe the beauty in front of him.
