Video: Vaadat Charigim – Odisea

Listening to the music of Vaadat Charigim it is easy to forget exactly where they are coming from.  Sure, the band sings in Hebrew, however, their indie-rock sound shares much more with late 80s dream-rock and grunge bands like Slowdive or Dinosaur Jr. than anything I would normally associate with Middle Eastern music.  That sense of familiarity made it all the more shocking when the opening shots of their video for “Odisea” show a dusty and seemingly abandoned Tel Aviv; setting up an atmosphere completely foreign and captivating.  Alongside the visuals, “Odisea” becomes all the more entrancing and impressive as the singers voice rises calmly above the wall of slowly distorting and decaying noise behind it.
