Enjoy it While it’s Fresh: Howl

When I first started listening to Howl and his new Happy Valley EP I didn’t expect much more than music from a kid who had listened to way too much of The xx.  But something drew me into listening through the EP and after the first few songs I realized how wrong first impressions can be sometimes.  Howl makes atmospheric, electro-acoustic music that definitely references the musical stylings of The xx (specifically the production of Jamie xx) or King Krule while still managing to be something completely original and in my opinion totally more awesome.  Most songs feature reverb heavy guitar chords, minimalist electronic beats and Howl’s distinctively British croon which all adds up to a combination that is hard not to fall for.  I’m also a sucker for anything referencing Twin Peaks so when the main theme popped up on the track ‘Leo Johnson’ there wasn’t much Howl could have done wrong to stop me from hopping on the band wagon.  Stream my two favorite tracks from the EP below and hit the jump for the full stream…
