Temple Songs – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Revisited

If there is one band that your average blogger wasn’t born to write about, it’s The Beatles.  Trying to write about their music is hard enough so I can’t imagine what it’s like trying to recreate and cover it.  If you’ve noticed a void of instantly catchy British lo-fi rock it will be nice to know that our favorite provider of said music has been hard at work on this project to recreate Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Instead of trying to completely reimagine the album, Temple Songs come across as a band that really has nothing to lose and had a lot of fun playing the album.  The Temple Songs version doesn’t stray too far from the source material (which will probably make everyone happier anyway), however, they aren’t trying to retread familiar ground either.  Although it doesn’t sound like Temple Songs pounded out these covers in a few nights and called it a day, this version of the album sounds loose and playful with the guise of accidental genius instead of the original’s meticulously orchestrated genius.  Beatles’ music is a touchy subject so I’m sure many people will have their negative opinions about the release, however, I’m really enjoying this new take on a revered classic.  Stream ‘A Day In The Life’ and ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ below and the entire album after the jump or at Twisted Tapes bandcamp.
