Yesterday, two of Boston beat crew M|O|D’s more well-known members, LiL TExAS and C.Z. released a track together. With these two artists teaming up together, I don’t know how you could expect anything less than a future trap anthem, and that is exactly what they gave us. “Crystal Love Affair” opens with a shining synth melody that sounds like how one might imagine Crystals would sound and then the heavy future trap drums kick in and the track goes into full gear. The greatest part of the collaboration is how harmoniously each artists style comes through together. LiL TExAS shines through with the candy-coated melodies that you might recall from a song like “Tryn 2 Get Lean” while C.Z.’s style shows through the complex drum patterns and beautifully crafted sub-bass. Please keep the good future trap coming.
Lately, some electronic artists (think Shlohmo or Gold Panda) have been taking a much more organic approach to making music with a computer. They are abandoning the harsh noises and hyper-organized ideas of past electronic music for more natural sounding noises and less-perfect structures. RAJA has been doing this extremely well for the past few months. With his “That Girl” edit he went to the point of almost fully abandoning the computer as an instrument, and although that did turn out very well, now he is back with a happy medium. Throughout “I’ve Been Falling”, there is a constant soft-sounding synth chord progression that gives the song a full feel, while RAJA seamlessly incorporates an acoustic drum pattern that only adds to the feel of the song.
