Mixtape: Languid- Soulness Side Two

Soundcloud is an absolute haven for great beatmakers and producers.  Just to further prove that fact to myself, today I decided to start following some artists based of their name and picture.  One of the most eye-catching artists had a classic photo of Batman and Robin as his picture and goes by L▲nguⓘd (Languid) who turns out to be a Zimbabwean beatmaker based in Britain who just dropped a new mixtape today entitled Soulness Side Two.  At first listen, Languid’s sample-based sound didn’t jump out as something of a rare find on soundcloud but as the music progressed his style became easier to distinguish.  Every one of Languid’s tracks was recorded using only chops which he has proudly demonstrated by performing every one of the tracks live.  The result is a mixtape of glitchy, J Dilla-esque beats which can be downloaded over at his bandcamp.  Two of the tracks on the mixtape come from Negrosaki who’s style fits in with the rest of the tape.  Stream Souless Side Two below…

Enjoy it While it’s Fresh: Tropical Tobacco

Tropical Tobacco is a band based out of Lisbon, Portugal that caught my ears with their unique blend of synth-pop and tropical music.  What is easy to tell about the band from the few singles they’ve released so far is that they make aggressively gorgeous music.  While the dream-pop tag has been abused by some bands to hide songwriting behind warm sheets of haze and fuzz, Tropical Tobacco aren’t making forgettable, sleep inducing music.  Guitar tones fall in and out, percussion is fast and dominant and the vocals are clear and in the front.  What is most exciting about the band is how obvious it is that this is only the beginning.  If they keep producing more tropical synth-rock it’s bound to keep getting better.  For now download their Aboriginal EP at their bandcamp and hear more at their soundcloud.

Video: Sat. Nite Duets- Genghis Khan

Sat. Nite Duet’s latest video for their awesome track ‘Genghis Khan’ was just dropped taking place “somewhere on the epic jah compound”.  The video is expected Sat. Nite Duet’s awesomeness including a masked drummer, fully grown facial hair from Andy and a Four Loko bath… oh, and of course Andy flies on a mattress through space.  I just gave a positive review to their album Summer of Punishment and this video only further validates all the praise.
