mp3: Ambassadeurs- Duke Red

Brighton-based beatmaker Ambassadeurs is good.  He makes it obvious in the opening 10 seconds of his track ‘Duke Red’ when a swirling synth erupts into a collage of vocal samples.  Technically, this track is a wonder with so many samples dropping in and out all kept together by tight drum-work and it’s dizzying to consider how Ambassadeurs put this together.  And even if the composition wasn’t so impressive the song is instantly catchy and hard to take off repeat.  Download below [right click save-as via].

Video: Gorillaz- DoYaThing (ft. Andre 3000 and James Murphy)

If you haven’t already heard, the fine people over at Converse managed to pull together Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy for a track.  The video is definitely for fans of Gorillaz as it features their famous animated characters going through their morning rituals.  The clip is loaded with Gorillaz easter-eggs and even features the animated versions of Andre 3ooo and James Murphy.  The track is an absolute monster and it’s hard to imagine that the artists could have come together any better.

Cough Cool- Basement EP

If you don’t already have enough lo-fi instrumental music in your life (that should be everyone), Cough Cool’s Basement EP is exactly what you need.  The 6-track release has Cough Cool working with slow/shoe-gazy compositions that appropriately sounds like they were recorded in a basement with lousy equipment.  The EP is definitely something for fans of early Ducktails’ soundscapes and is not a bad way to chill-out for about 15 minutes.  The instrumental EP is a complementary release to his Lately LP out on Bathetic Records which you can listen to over at his soundcloud.  Stream Basement below…

Video: Caves- Eleven Twenty

While I would have been perfectly fine with a video thrown together with some grainy clips from old TV ads or a movie, the video for ‘Eleven Twenty’ instead features some dudes with pantyhose on their heads driving around a parking lot.  While I’m not exactly sure why they are wearing the pantyhose or doing donuts in the lot they are clearly having a lot of fun drinking bears and smoking ciggies.  Check out Caves’ fantastic EP here.

mp3: Mister Bibal- Dedication (ft. Black Spade)

France is king when it comes to house-music with some of the genres greatest innovators and artists.  Lately, however, house has fallen in popularity to the sudden influx of bass-music that has taken over the blogosphere lately.  It’s great to hear a french producer, Mister Bibal, taking on the bass-music sound and doing it like no one else.  On his track ‘Dedication’, the first teaser for his album FAILURE, Mister Bibal crafts a wonky and gorgeous beat that provides the perfect backdrop for Black Spade to lay down his verse.  While Black Spade’s rhymes aren’t going to blow everyone away, Mister Bibal’s sputtering beat probably will.  FAILURE drops March 6th on True Flav records.

mp3: Naomi Punk- Voodoo Trust

Coming through with the same huge riffs that earned them our initial praise, Naomi Punk just dropped the first teaser for their album The Feeling.  ’Voodoo Trust’ has everything that I’ve come to expect from the band with its surf-punk chords and grungy attitude that are hard to resist.  Although I have no idea what the vocalist is saying throughout most of the song, I doubt that the guys are talking about hanging out at the beach and taking it easy.  The Feeling drops April 24th on Couple Skate records and if there are more tracks as strong as ‘Voodoo Trust’ I’m sold.

mp3: Drake – Cameras (Earnest Blount Remix)

New York producer, Earnest Blount, of whom I know very little, just threw this incredible remix of one of the smoother cuts off of Drake’s Take Care up on his soundcloud.  Blount chooses to shift Drake’s vocals to serve as more of a background to his amazing instrumental for the remix, and it makes for something unique and fresh.  The instrumental is based around a simple and short chord progression, but Blount backs it up with some spacious, meticulously crafted percussion and synths that shall blow your mind.  Earnest Blount will be dropping his first official release in the form of a short EP on Teaching Machine / Alpha Pup at the end of March, so look out for that.
