EmAy – EmAy, Karen O, and the Kids

EmAy recently caught my attention with his collaborative track with Star Slinger and Blackbird, Blackbird.  The track inspired me to dig deeper into EmAy’s discography, and I found this.  This project, released during the “Where The Wild Things Are” craze is a reinterpretation/reconstruction of Karen O’s soundtrack to “Where The Wild Things Are”.  EmAy first caught my eye with his lyrics and verses, so I wasn’t so sure about an instrumental album of his which he didn’t pick up the microphone once.  But though it is unfortunate that the project doesn’t feature any verses from EmAy, it shows that just because EmAy is a rapper and a producer, doesn’t mean he isn’t more than adequate at both.  EmAy uses samples from the soundtrack to craft airy, contemplative-sounding melodies, while always providing a drum track that you can’t help but nod your head to.  I usually have a hard time getting into instrumental albums, but not this one.  Stream and download below via EmAy’s bandcamp.
