By accident, I forgot to post this when it first came out, but better late than never. Making what is essentially an Illmatic cover album is a bold move, but if there were one person I believe could do the classic album justice, it would be Fashawn. Much like Nas when he released his classic debut Illmatic, Fashawn’s amazing debut Boy Meets World saw Fashawn showcasing his smart, wise lyricism at the young age of 21, so I am not afraid to call him the Nas of our generation. Many people could take offense to taking on a project like this, but Fashawn does a great job of making it clear that he is not trying to say he could have done a better job on Illmatic or anything like that, but simply wants to pay homage to his favorite hip-hop forefather, and does an amazing job at it. If you are not familiar with Fashawn’s music, this is a great introduction for you.
